This 1.33-hectare park in east Helsinki was created from natural forest in 1993, with a network of paths and five wooden bridges. The winding Mellunkylänpuro stream runs through it over a small stretch of rapids. The planting follows city gardener Bengt Schalin's emphasis on colour from flowers, autumn foliage and leaves, with about 113 plant species in themed zones. It won the Environmental Structure of the Year award in 2008.
From Mellunmäki metro station, the Aarteenetsijänsilta bridge leads over Länsimäentie. Inside are a rest terrace, stone steps down to a pond and a broad stone wall to sit on. Access is step-free, dogs are allowed, and the park is suitable for children.
