Founded in 1889, the private foundation-run folk high school offers academic-year courses in social sciences, humanities, communication and cultural subjects. Studies are liberal adult education rather than degree programmes. Its Christian values emphasise responsibility, care for others and openness.
A supervised student residence directly connected to the school has 60 places. Architect Vilho Penttilä designed the main building in 1903, and accommodation was added in the 1930s. Teaching aims to support active citizenship, equality and social cohesion.
