From this Helsinki pier a ferry crosses in about 15 minutes to Mustasaari, an island owned by the Helsinki parish union. The island has a shallow, unsupervised beach, a playground, a sauna heated on weekend evenings and a café whose lunch includes vegan and gluten-free options. Two pilgrimage trails of about 1.5 km have 12 stops each.
The island is open during the school summer holidays and on August weekends, at other times by advance booking, and for day visits only. It is alcohol-free and pets are not allowed. The nearest stop is Apollonkatu, and there is no parking at the pier. Expect queues on sunny days. The ferry deck is step-free, and cards and cash are accepted.
