Run by the Helsinki YMCA and founded in 1966, this music school is a member of the Finnish Association of Music Institutes (SML) and follows the extensive syllabus of basic education in the arts. It teaches instruments, singing, music theory and composition, with instruments such as piano, guitar, violin, cello, electric bass, flute, saxophone and drums.
Everyone starts on an open track, and after six months a teacher's recommendation can move them to the music school track leading to the basic and advanced diplomas. Early-childhood music groups also run in Spanish and Russian, and there is a symphony orchestra, concerts, band clubs and summer courses. The website is in Finnish and English.
