Founded in 1963, this national federation brings together voluntary defence guilds. Activities are open to interested citizens regardless of military rank, gender or age. About 90 local guilds are grouped into nine districts, with guilds linked by service branch, unit, heritage or region.
Membership applications are submitted online with identification. Guilds can attend National Defence Training Association courses and apply for grants. The federation publishes a magazine and electronic bulletins and supports Nordic guild days held every other year.
