Founded in 1921, the literary association organises writing courses, events and seminars and publishes a literary magazine. Early members included Olavi Paavolainen, Katri Vala and Erkki Vala. Activities also include Kerho 33 discussions and the Runokuu poetry festival.
Writing groups serve ages from 13 to over 25. Writers can obtain manuscript feedback and use the Villa Sarkia residency. The association has around 1,300 members and EcoCompass certification; its environmental pledge states that magazine printing is carbon-free and electricity comes from wind power.
