This peace work centre, owned by the Finnish Peace Union, was built in 1915 as the Vammeljoki railway station on the Karelian Isthmus. It was moved to the capital in 1923 and to its current site in 1986, relocated as a whole building, reportedly the largest such move in Finland at the time. It was renovated largely by volunteers after 1984 and opened as a peace work centre in September 1986. Several civil society organisations and activist groups operate from the building.
The hall can be rented for parties, meetings and gatherings, mainly at weekends, with a fully equipped kitchen and tableware. The basement has a sauna and a smaller room suited to meetings, sauna evenings and stag parties. A video projector and wifi are included; rentals are self-service with no janitor. Cafe Fredrika runs in the hall on weekdays. Visitors enter through the railway-side door and should arrange a viewing or key pickup in advance. The entrance is wheelchair accessible.
