Founded in 1949 on Professor Aapeli Saarisalo's initiative, the association focuses on the Bible and Israel. It organises Israel-related events, Bible and prayer groups, Israeli song evenings and Studia Generalia lectures. Opposing antisemitism and replacement theology forms part of its mission.
It offers Hebrew courses, dictionaries and Bible translations. The Sarigim choir rehearses and performs at association events. Its online shop also sells commemorative cards and Dead Sea cosmetics. Membership is open to people who accept its principles concerning the Bible and Israel.
