Founded in 1983, the association represents more than 3,300 non-fiction, textbook and research article authors. It defends copyright and economic interests, promotes non-fiction literature and participates in international cooperation. It belongs to Kopiosto and Sanasto.
Members can access training and regional events. Grants are awarded to non-fiction writers, with Warelius and Tietopöllö prizes and a book fair non-fiction award also organised. Grants and prizes are funded by copyright compensation collected by Kopiosto.
