Founded in 1956, the organisation promotes swimming skills and safety on water and ice. It trains over 3,000 swimming teachers, special needs instructors, pool supervisors, lifeguards and baby, family and water fitness instructors each year. It also publishes drowning statistics and research on children's and adults' swimming skills.
Pool, spa and beach operators can obtain advice on safe and accessible services. Public activities include safety campaigns and touring ice-rescue training. The organisation also works with authorities and contributes to legislation and guidance in its field.
