Founded in 1909, the scientific society promotes forest research and makes findings known to the public. It brings together researchers and others interested in forest science. Activities include seminars and special-interest clubs on forest management and people's relationships with forests.
The society awards research grants, including to doctoral candidates, and recognises doctoral and master's theses on university recommendations. Its office is at the university's Viikki campus.
