Founded in 1997, the rural development association is an approved local Leader group under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. It can grant Leader funding to communities and micro-enterprises in its area. Priorities include sustainable businesses, nature and cultural activities, and lively villages and communities.
Membership is open to residents, municipalities, associations and companies in the area. Its territory also covers Keuruu, Kuhmoinen, Multia and Petäjävesi. Its permanent staff are a managing director and a project adviser.
