The museum is part of the Aalto2 museum centre, a meeting place for architecture, design and cultural environment. The permanent exhibition presents Alvar Aalto's work and design process in more depth than the surface. The building was designed by Aalto himself, with drawings completed in 1971 and the building finished in 1973. The Alvar Aalto Foundation also offers expert services: restoration supervision and advice, documentation studies, continuing education, seminars and architecture education. Its collections cover the work of Alvar, Aino and Elissa Aalto and are nationally and internationally significant.
Ticket types include standard admission and a concession for pensioners, the unemployed and students, and the Museum Card is accepted. The car park, entrance and toilet are wheelchair accessible, with accessible seating, a hearing loop and wheelchair hire.
