The university's natural history museum preserves and presents the nature of Central Finland. The permanent exhibition, Environment as heritage, covers biodiversity, species protection and environmental education. Themes include predators, winter nature, water bodies, forest and swamp nature, and geology, with temporary themed exhibitions alongside. The museum shop, Luontosoppi, sells nature souvenirs, university products, books, postcards and soft toys, with card payment only.
The museum is on the first floor of the Harju water tower building. Entry is free, and groups of more than 10 should book in advance. It suits school and daycare groups. The exhibition rooms are step-free, and the second floor has a lift and an accessible toilet, but the observation tower is not accessible by wheelchair. Accessible parking is near the main entrance, and guide dogs are welcome.
