According to its website, this is Finland's national museum of crafts, with exhibitions for all ages. The permanent exhibitions cover Finnish craft (Kädenjälki) and national costumes (Ajaton perinne). It was founded on 14 December 1888 as the State Craft Museum under the Finnish Applied Arts Society. The collections include historical and contemporary craft objects, tools, materials and photographs.
The building also houses the Finnish National Costume Centre, which documents and makes national costumes, and the Conservation Centre, which conserves old and new textiles and serves customers nationwide. The museum shop sells products by Finnish craftspeople, and an open workshop and guided tours are offered. The entrance and toilet are wheelchair accessible, and wheelchairs can be borrowed for hire.
