Funded by private investors and the Kainuu Regional Council, the development company plans a pulp and biotechnology mill in Paltamo. Planned annual output is about 600,000 tonnes of bleached pulp, approximately 85 per cent long-fibre softwood pulp and 15 per cent birch pulp.
The project envisages a biotechnology cluster using the mill's energy and side streams. Wood would mainly come from within about 100 km. The environmental permit has become legally binding and an aviation obstacle permit has been granted.
