Founded in 1963, the non-profit association promotes water and environmental quality and sustainable water use in North Savo, North Karelia and parts of South Savo. It produces water information, runs development projects and contributes to decisions on water issues.
Activities include catchment planning, lake restoration and wastewater treatment training and advice. Its majority-owned research company provides water monitoring, drinking water studies and biological surveys. Members include municipalities, industrial plants and other organisations.
