Founded in 1947, the theatre club promotes knowledge of theatre and arranges six or seven theatre trips a year for members. It supports theatre staff through grants and scholarships. Awarded since 1950, the Iivari prize is a bronze miniature sculpture by Heikki Varja.
The club runs the city theatre's café service with around 120 volunteers and five paid staff. A newsletter informs its approximately 650 members about activities. An annual Iivari celebration takes place in spring.
