The association is part of the international Outward Bound movement and runs outdoor experiential education programmes for young people and professionals. The programmes use nature, adventure, group tasks and outdoor skills as tools for personal growth. The focus is on self-knowledge, resilience, communication and group skills, decision-making and responsibility. The association also works on projects such as SOTELI, which includes a tool called Treffa.
The pedagogy builds on head, heart and hands: thinking, emotion and physical activity all take part. Its roots lie in the ideas of Kurt Hahn, whose first Outward Bound school opened in Aberdovey, Wales, in 1946. The movement has spread to more than 35 countries.
