Founded in 1997, the local Leader group supports rural development in South Karelia. Funding covers community investments and development projects, small business start-up, development and investment, business groups, training and international cooperation.
Its area includes Lemi, Luumäki, Savitaipale, Taipalsaari and the surrounding countryside. Priorities include entrepreneurship, community activity, climate, the environment and young people. It works with Itä-Suomen Kalaleader on fisheries and fishing tourism development.
