The diocese traces its roots to the founding of the Diocese of Viipuri in 1554. The cathedral chapter settled in its present city in 1945. The diocese covers 36 parishes across South Karelia, South Savo, Kymenlaakso and Päijät-Häme, organised into four deaneries.
Decisions and meeting notes are published online, alongside a prayer calendar and newsletter. Its work includes church environmental and climate programmes. The entrance, car park and toilet are wheelchair accessible.
