The foundation was set up in 1971 to manage student housing. Its founders were the university student union, the Domus Botnica foundation and Pohjois-Suomen oppilasasuntolat Oy. It now owns over 5,500 student housing places, rented to students at affordable rates. Housing types include shared flats, studios, two-room apartments and family apartments.
Residents can influence their living environment through a resident committee and report faults through an electronic fault report system. Housing counselling is available for tenants with problems, and applications are submitted through an online system. The office is in the university premises, and the entrance and car park are wheelchair accessible.
