Seppo Manninen's memorial was unveiled to mark 75 years of Finnish independence. Its ten-metre red granite arch depicts Finnish history from the early 1900s. A flame in polished stainless steel symbolises the strength needed to gain and preserve independence.
The work stands in Sibelius Park. It was funded through donations, public fundraising and a city grant. Access to the site is wheelchair accessible.
