Founded in 1904, this Tampere company is one of Finland's oldest arts institutions. Its opening night on 8 September 1904 featured Aleksis Kivi's Kullervo with a prologue by Eino Leino. The main building, designed by Kauno S. Kallio and Oiva Kallio, was inaugurated in 1913, and a second stage opened in the former Frenckell factory in 1982. It was named Theatre of the Year in 1997.
The repertoire includes plays, musicals and monologues. Tickets are sold online and by phone, groups and companies have their own sales service, and guided tours of the building are available. Interval refreshments can be pre-ordered. The entrance, toilets and parking are wheelchair accessible.
