The national organisation advocates for the human rights and equal opportunities of deaf people and sign language users, including internationally. It advises authorities, employers and educational institutions on deafness and sign language, and works on language rights in health and social services.
Families can attend courses, while youth activities include camps and events. Online resources include a sign language library, video programmes and dictionaries of Finnish and Finland-Swedish sign languages. The organisation publishes Kuurojen lehti four times a year, runs a library with Humak and offers courses through its folk high school.
