Greeting travellers as they arrive in Turku near the Caribia spa, this giant outdoor sculpture is the work of visual and conceptual artist Alvar Gullichsen. Around seven metres tall and described as the love child of a marzipan pig and a rubber duck, it has stood guard over the city since 1999.
It is dressed up for special occasions, with a student cap on May Day and an elf hat at Christmas. It is suitable for children, but there are no toilets or restaurant on site. More background is available from the Turku City Museum's sculpture collection.
