Founded in 1928, the amateur astronomy association offers education about the universe and observing equipment for members. Its founder and long-serving chair was academician Yrjö Väisälä. It uses the Iso-Heikkilä observatory, built by the university in 1937.
Star-viewing sessions take place on clear Friday evenings in autumn and winter. Monthly night-sky shows are held at the Väisälä Planetarium in Tuorla, with a May-to-July summer break. Members can share observations and images through Taivaanvahti. Accessible seating and an accessible toilet are not available.
