Founded in 1963, the association advocates for people with intellectual disabilities. It organises leisure activities and peer support for relatives. Members with intellectual disabilities have also participated in board work since the 1980s.
The association helped establish the supported-housing foundation Erityisasuntosäätiö in 1985 and the intellectual disability sports federation KELI in 1987. Its work can be supported through donations and bequests.
