Founded in 1872, the Finnish National Theatre is the oldest Finnish-language professional theatre, and its Helsinki home, designed by Onni Törnqvist-Tarjanne, opened in 1902. The repertoire spans contemporary Finnish drama, notable foreign plays and classics. Besides the Main and Small Stages, shows are held in Taivassali, Maalaamosali and Lavaklubi, and there is a touring stage.
Booking ahead is advised, and groups have their own terms, set menus and meeting rooms. Interval refreshments are served, and Café Willensauna is in the building. Backstage tours and workshops are run for schools and young people. Access is step-free, and captions are offered via the Subtitle Mobile app.
