This Helsinki-based society promotes the study and knowledge of Asian and African cultures in Finland. Its web address leads to the site of the Finnish Society for the Study of Asia and Africa (AATS), which says the society was founded in December 1917 and first focused on the Middle East. Publishing is at the core of its work, with the Studia Orientalia series and series in Finnish and Swedish.
The society holds regular public lectures and awards a travel grant. Its books, such as Buddhalaisuus Suomessa (2023) and India and the Roman Empire (2024), are sold through Tiedekirja. Members can give the secretary their email address to receive news about twice a year.
