The Finnish National Gallery in Helsinki describes itself as the nation's visual memory, keeping the state's art treasures available to everyone. It runs the Ateneum and the Sinebrychoff Art Museum, which show Finnish and European art, and Kiasma, the Museum of Contemporary Art. The collections hold over 43,000 works from the 1300s to the present.
Finland's largest specialist art library has branches at Ateneum and Kiasma, where archive material can be viewed by booking a time in advance. Other services include an image service, researcher services, artwork loans, export permits and a shared online shop. Admission is charged, and the entrance and toilets are wheelchair accessible.
