Founded in 1909 on Seurasaari island in Helsinki, this open-air museum is a kind of miniature Finland: 89 buildings moved here from around the country show rural life in different regions. The oldest log buildings date from the late 1600s, many keep their original furnishings, and the interiors show everyday life and festivities of the 1800s and 1900s. It is part of the National Museum of Finland.
It is open only in summer, from mid-May to mid-September. A free mobile guide tells the stories of over 30 buildings. Antin Kaffeliiteri serves coffee and light lunches, and there is a shop in the Iisalmi parsonage. Most yards are wheelchair-accessible, but thresholds and stairs can be hard.
