The main museum of the Suomenlinna sea fortress in Helsinki tells the story of its 270 years. The permanent exhibition covers life in the fortress in the 18th and 19th centuries, the everyday lives of residents and soldiers, the dry dock and restoration work, with tools, weapons and ammunition found on the island on display. The 25-minute Suomenlinna Experience film traces the fortress from its founding to the present day.
The museum is open all year except on 24 and 25 December. The film starts every half hour, with the last screening an hour before closing. It is worth buying tickets online in advance. Parking, the entrance and toilet are accessible, and there is a restaurant and Wi-Fi.
