This wooden-house area in Vallila, Helsinki, was built for working-class residents in the first decades of the 1900s and has been exceptionally well preserved. The mansard-roofed wooden houses of the 1910s follow type drawings by architect Karl Hård af Segerstad, and the 1920s houses were designed by Jussi and Toivo Paatela and Armas Lindgren. Small plots, narrow streets that follow the terrain and courtyard gardens with outbuildings reflect the ideals of the 1910s.
The area is explored on foot along residential streets, and a visit usually takes up to four hours. It is suitable for children.
