The national industry and employers' association for the painting, surface treatment and floor covering sector was founded in 1912 as Suomen Maalarimestariliitto ry. It has about 230 member companies, mostly small family businesses, with the largest employing over 200 people. Together the members have an annual turnover of about 500 million euros and employ over 4000 professionals.
Its main task is negotiating the generally binding collective agreement for painting and floor covering with the Rakennusliitto union. Members receive training and advice, especially on labour law, plus contract law advisory services. It is organised as 17 member associations and one industrial member association, and industrial companies such as paint and floor product makers, importers and sellers can also join. It is part of Rakennusteollisuus RT and the Confederation of Finnish Industries EK, and a founding member of Rakentamisen Laatu ry.
