Founded in 2003, the umbrella association preserves the wartime generation's cultural heritage and promotes national unity and defence will. Heritage work and regional coordination operate under the Ministry of Defence through 27 regional associations.
Its sotiemmeperinne.fi website presents the history of the 1939–1945 wars and veterans' personal accounts. It supports veterans, widows, wartime women and war orphans through aid and Christmas parcels. Donations and fundraising partly finance the work.
