Founded in 2006, this national organisation supports authorities with volunteer search and surveillance flights. It is one of the three coordinating organisations of the Volunteer Rescue Service, Vapepa, and is responsible for its air operations. Alert groups use aircraft, unmanned aircraft and motorised paragliders.
The organisation trains, coordinates and drills volunteer aircrews. Police or rescue authorities can request an aircraft and trained crew through the Vapepa duty officer. Introductory courses are available for volunteers, with membership through regional associations.
Share your experience of volunteering or training on Suomi Guide for people considering taking part.
