The retail workers' union branch was formed by a merger of two associations in 1990. Its roots go back to a shop assistants' association in the early 1900s. It joined the service-sector trade union when that union was founded in 2000.
Members can order an annual calendar from the union's online shop. The branch holds an annual autumn meeting, and its history is covered in the 1994 book 100 vuotta kauppaa Savossa.
