The volunteer sea and lake rescue association assists people in distress on Lake Saimaa and helps boaters with technical faults. It is a contract unit of South Karelia's rescue department and a first response unit of the wellbeing services county. Some crew members are trained first responders, and the association also cooperates with police.
Vessels can depart within 30 minutes during the open-water season. Active members follow national training, with access to volunteer rescue network courses. The base has training and meeting space, drying and changing facilities, a sauna and a bridge simulator. The entrance is not wheelchair accessible.
