Tampere Cathedral, the seat of the Diocese of Tampere, is among the most significant National Romantic churches in Finland. Designed by Lars Sonck, the building went up in 1902–1907 as St John's Church and took its present name in 1923, when Tampere became a bishop's see. Hugo Simberg and Magnus Enckell created the interior art: Simberg's frescoes include The Wounded Angel and The Garden of Death, and the altar fresco Resurrection is by Enckell.
The entrance is step-free, a ramp leads to the altar, and there is an accessible toilet, an induction loop and wheelchair spaces. Hymnbooks come in large print and Braille, and audio description and a virtual tour are offered.
