Run by YMCA Tampere, this music school teaches instruments and singing mainly to children and young people. It has 1,800 students, 85 teachers and 50 orchestras and bands, with teaching in four localities. The youngest start with Muskari music play for ages 0 to 6, music groups for ages 7 to 9, or Suzuki lessons from age 3.
Students follow a classical or a pop and jazz track, learning piano, guitar, saxophone, violin, kantele (Finnish zither) or voice, as well as composition, music theory and electronic music production. Choirs include Tactus for children and Sympaatti for young people. Most concerts are free, and applications can be made in Finnish or English.
