This regional council, known in English as the Council of Tampere Region, is a joint municipal authority for the 23 municipalities of Pirkanmaa, based in Tampere, and is responsible for developing the region. Its work covers advocacy, decision-making, regional development, land-use planning and development funding, guided by a strategy for 2026–2029.
It is preparing a partial regional land-use plan on biodiversity and energy and runs the Pirkanmaa regional data service. The website has a newsletter, a materials bank with publications, logos and funding forms, and a whistleblower channel. Partners include the Tampere Region EU Office.
