This Turku unit belongs to a school combining mainstream and special education, which serves its local area and is the city's central placement for special classes. The special classes are known for teaching deaf, hard-of-hearing and language-impaired pupils, and sign language is a second teaching language. Of more than 600 pupils, over 150 are in special classes, and about 170 have a mother tongue other than Finnish.
There are about 50 full-time teachers and nearly as many assistants. Grade 1 places are assigned automatically by home address, and absences are applied for in Wilma. Special classes have their own morning and afternoon activities, and parking and the entrance are accessible.
