Run by the University of Turku, this botanic garden in Ruissalo holds more than 5,000 plant species and varieties from climate zones around the world, from rainforests to deserts. The greenhouses, completed in 1998, include connected Old World and New World tropical houses.
The outdoor garden is free to enter, while the greenhouses charge admission. A digital guide is available in the greenhouses, and group tours should be booked about two weeks ahead. Next to Café Vanha Tammi a shop sells plants, seeds and cards. Wheelchair and walker users can get around the greenhouses with an assistant, though not every aisle is suitable. Bus 28 runs from the Market Square.
