Founded in 1905, this national central organisation of deaf people brings together 35 member associations and works to secure deaf people's human rights and equal opportunities. In Turku it is based in the Lounatuulet community building, and its work covers both Finnish Sign Language and Finland-Swedish Sign Language.
It runs events, courses and camps, each with its own registration, as well as NUPPU sign-language clubs for children and families, youth work and peer-support training. It publishes the quarterly Kuurojen lehti magazine and the Kuurojen Video service, and its online resources include a sign-language library and the SignWiki and Suvi dictionaries.
