This national association, based in Helsinki, is part of the Finnish Yoga Federation. It was founded in 1975 by doctors who practised yoga and wanted to bring yoga and medicine closer together. Its SJL yoga follows a curriculum approved by the European Yoga Union, and the hatha-raja practice moves from training the body towards training the mind.
Classes are held in small groups, and the association also organises events. All instructors have completed SJL training or are in it, and some have also trained in yoga therapy. Any yoga practitioner can apply for membership online or on paper; after board approval an invoice arrives by email. The association is run by volunteers.
