This Helsinki bakery was founded in 1946 by baker Virjo, who chose the name by spinning a globe that stopped on a Pacific island. The Snellman family bought the business in 1975 and still runs it. Pastries, pies, buns and bread are handmade daily, and the speciality is the lihis meat pie, said to follow the same secret recipe since 1946.
You can buy to take away or stay for coffee and breakfast; a visit usually lasts from half an hour to two and a half hours. The toilet is wheelchair accessible, cards and mobile payments are accepted, and paid parking is nearby. The products are also sold by some 30–40 retailers in the Helsinki region, including Stockmann and the Old Market Hall.
