Founded in 1831, the Finnish Literature Society is a learned society and cultural organisation in Helsinki researching Finnish culture and heritage, and Finland's oldest continuously operating publisher. Its archive holds literary and cultural history, folklore and oral history, plus special collections on the Sámi and Lapland, the Roma and Ingria. A statue of the rune singer Pedri Shemeikka stands in the lobby.
The library lends books, arranges interlibrary loans and has work spaces, and it holds the Kalevala and Vanha Fennica collections. The society publishes academic books, some open access, and general non-fiction, sold in its online bookshop. The entrance is wheelchair accessible.
