At the mouth of the Aura River in Turku, where the river ends and the sea begins, stands Finland's national museum for seafaring heritage, which also covers the history of the navy. Its predecessors were founded at Åbo Akademi in 1936 and in Turku in 1977. Exhibitions are open all year, and in summer visitors can board historic sailing ships and naval vessels such as Suomen Joutsen, Sigyn and Karjala.
There are a restaurant and café, Göran, a shop and themed guided tours. You can stay overnight on the ship Borea, and meeting rooms seat up to about 100. Children under 7 enter free, and the Museokortti pass is accepted. The entrance, parking and toilets are accessible, with a hearing loop.
