This members' culture club in Helsinki brings together people of different ages who share a commitment to Finnish identity. It was founded in 1876 as a reading and conversation club where Finnish-minded young men discussed national identity and the status of the Finnish language. Around 1900 its members helped found the Finnish National Theatre, and they were also involved in creating Otava, KOP and Pohjola.
The club restaurant is open to everyone, and private rooms and a main hall can be booked for events. Members meet for club evenings, hobby groups, themed nights and traditional celebrations. Applicants first attend an information session. The entrance is step-free.
